Overview

Tilt Trim Motors
Owners of Mercury motors appreciate the flawless and precise operation of DB Electrical tilt trim motors that match OEM performance. DB Electrical tilt trim motors smoothly raise and lower boat engines to the perfect angle for better on-the-water performance and fuel economy. They can also lift your engine upward to avoid damage when loading your boat on a trailer. Tilt trim motors make your days out on the water more enjoyable by giving you more control over how your boat performs. Our tilt trim motors are 12-volt direct current, reversing-style motors. We test our tilt trim motors on a professional test bench to ensure dependable performance.

Top Reasons to Choose DB Electrical Tilt Trim Motors

  • Marine grade that meets SAE J1171 and ISO8847
  • Recommended as a Mercury tilt trim motor replacement
  • Meets fitment data of Mercury power tilt and trim units
  • Designed to meet or exceed original (OEM) equipment specifications
  • High quality brushes, bushings and armatures for longer service life
  • Includes harness, relays and heavy-duty valves where applicable

How Tilt Trim Motors Work
When it’s time to install a tilt trim motor, you’ll notice one green and one blue wire on most models. The blue wire carries power to raise the engine, and the green wire carries power to lower the engine. Motors built for older-style systems may also have a black wire that serves as a ground. Newer style systems do not have this third wire.

Money-Saving Bottom Line Difference
Our tilt trim motors are typically priced lower than OEM counterparts. Because there is no middleman, we can offer these exceptional-quality tilt trim motors at low factory direct prices.

The DB Electrical Advantage – 1-Year Warranty
DB Electrical delivers exceptional value for products that we stand behind with our total-confidence 1-year warranty. Yes, you have a full year to make sure your motor meets your expectations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the number one cause of PT&T pump failure?
A: Corrosion and lack of maintenance lead to many failures. A quick clean and lubricant will go a very long way here, especially important if you have been boating in saltwater.
Q: How to maintain a PT&T motor?
A: It’s pretty simple. Use silicone lubricant and wipe away any moisture. Then lubricate the rams with a marine grade grease. Use die electric grease on the relay spades and check the terminals for corrosion.
Q: What type of motors do PT&T system use?
A: 12 Volt DC reversing motors.
Q: How do I know if my PT&T switch is working?

Q: What type of motors do PT&T system use?
A: 12 Volt DC reversing motors.
Q: How do I know if my PT&T switch is working?
A: You will hear a slight click from the relays when pressing the power switch.
Q: What is the purpose of a PT&T motor?
A: It adjusts the boat’s power and efficiency by flattening out once it clears the bow wave.
Q: How will I know if my trim is out too far?
A: You will notice the RPM’s will go up and the speed will come down.
Q: When do I trim the boat back in?
A: When your back is down at idle or in no wake zones or coming to a stop.
Q: Blue wire? Green wire? Black wire? What do they do?
A: The blue wire raises and the green wire lowers. Black wires are commonly found on older systems that don’t receive ground through the motor housing via an engine chassis ground. Just remember “Blue sky and Green grass”. Blue raises it to the sky, green drops it to the grass.
Q: If the PT&T motor works fine, but the engine will not rise or lower?
A: If the PT&T motor works fine, but the engine won’t rise or lower, leaks hydraulic fluid or settles down when in the raised position or won’t stay trimmed, chances are the problem is with the hydraulic pump or valve body.
Q: What are some indicators I need to service the PT&T system?

  • Lack of movement. If you can hear it running but moving very little.
  • Intermittent operation. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. If it becomes undependable and doesn’t work every time.
  • Slow, noisy, jerking action with grinding whining and just not smooth.
  • Stuck in one position or the other – either up or down.
